7 Ways To Enjoy Spending Christmas Alone
Christmas in movies is always so magical, full of family and friends who can’t wait to see each other and snow that never seems cold, but in reality it’s panic buying gifts for relatives you don’t even see and feeling pressured into spending time with the ones you do see but would rather not.. sounds great right? 😬
Honestly I can’t say I have particualy enjoyed christmas since i was a young child, which is kinda sad. The best part for me is the build up to Christmas, feeling festive, seeing all the lights and eating all the chocolate!
But then christmas day comes along and everyone is posting their pictures on the gram of their happy family gatherings and i can think of is how far away from that i am and yeh, it kinda sucks.
But, This year i have said no more to feeling sorry for myself and thinking bad things about all the “happy” family pics i see posted. This year i have came up with 10 ways to enjoy being alone at Christmas! yes i said it, ENJOY BEING ALONE.
Now I am in fact a pro at loving life alone so this wasn’t as difficult as I thought. So here it is, 7 ways to enjoy spending Christmas alone.
7 ways to enjoy Spending Christmas Alone
Pamper Day!
Take the day to relax, de-stress and enjoy the peace.
Grab a Face mask and bubble bath, and stock up on your fav foods.
Make the day all about you, no guilt!
Christmas Day Cold Water Dip
Hear me out… there are loads of Christmas day dips around the county and its the perfect way to feel included, apart of a community, and feel the festive spirit as well as the chance to meet new people and spark new friendships.
Get Outside
Go to your favourite place, the beach, the forest, the hill in the park, whatever or, wherever it might be, go there!
Today is your day.
Christmas Break
So a remake of The Holiday might be a stretch..or not?.. but you can still book a night or two away. Get out of your comfort zone and visit somewhere you’ve never been with people you’ve never met, where you can be anybody you want.
Movie Marathon
Plan the ultimate movie list, get the treats in and binge-watch all your fav films!
On my top list is of course,
The Holiday!
The second would be any cheesy hallmark movie! I know.. tragic.
Volunteer
Nothing can make you feel great like making someone else feel great!
There are always care homes welcoming visitors and volunteers to spend time with the residents who perhaps don’t have any family or friends or alternatively,
Homeless charities and local Charites to your area will likely have a program or drop in centre over the Christmas period that would love your support.
Reflection
My favourite thing to do each Christmas as I’m sat alone is to write down all the amazing things I have done and loved from the year.
This could be as small as hysterically laughing when my friend’s dog pulled her into the river or as big as starting my own business or taking that first trip abroad totally alone and loving it!
You can make a full self-reflection and gratitude session out of it by writing down all the ways you have surprised yourself, gone out of your comfort zone, or got out of bed when you really didn’t want to!
Do some journaling and reflect on your year and what you would like to see come out of the new year ahead, not forgetting to add how you plan on making it happen.
