What is Self Love?

To feel self-love is to truly accept yourself.

To forgive and appreciate yourself in every way, feeling grateful for who you are.

This isn’t to say you have never made a mistake and have no flaws, it’s actually the opposite. To feel self-love is to acknowledge all those parts and love yourself anyway.

Self-love is the art of being your own best mate. It's like having a cheeky chat with yourself in the mirror and saying, "Hey, you're pretty awesome!" It's giving yourself a big hug when you feel like you need it most.

We are all worthy of Self Love so embrace it, show others it’s ok to love yourself, and break down old self-deprecating patterns.

The Importance Of Self Love

Self-love is crucial for us all. By nurturing a positive relationship with ourselves, we can cultivate inner strength, resilience, and confidence.

This self-compassion enables us to set boundaries, pursue our goals unapologetically, and navigate challenges with grace.

Without self love, we can easily fall into patterns of self-doubt, seeking validation from external sources, and compromising our worth. Embracing self-love is not a luxury but a necessity to thrive, lead fulfilling lives, and make a lasting impact on the world around us.

6 Books For Self Love

I have found books to be an immeasurable help during my own journey through life in discovering who I was and, learning to love myself.

So I thought why not share them with you! We’re all on our own journey and at different stages in our lives so some books may feel like they are speaking directly to you whilst others may not sit right but that’s perfectly ok.

These are just a few of the books I have really enjoyed so I hope you find one that’s calling out to you.

Treasure Yourself

The first book I read in my 20’s and it was exactly what I needed!

This book opened my eyes to Self Love and set me on the right path to self-discovery.

Sharing her own story and insights from her personal journey, with beautiful illustrations and affirmations to go back to, this book offered so much more than I had expected.

A prime example of not judging a book (or person) by the cover.

My first thought was; oh well she’s a supermodel it’s easy to love yourself when you are that gorgeous and have validation printed on the cover of magazines.. but, I was proven wrong and ended up realizing how much more there is to people and the world beyond my own thoughts.

Light Is The New Black

I have to admit I was a little sceptical at first but as I read on the more interested I became!

I found this book really helpful in the way it’s set out as a guidebook. Rather than just reading you participate in her teachings and do the work as the book suggests to really open yourself up and looking at how you see yourself and the world.

You can also find bundles of her books making it a cheaper option if you’re interested in reading more.

An honest and real take on self love and how it spreads to other areas of our life.

The Goddess Revolution

I still follow Mel on Instagram, one of the few people I continue to find inspiring and motivational in my own journey.

This book is the perfect introduction to learning to love yourself and going after your dreams and aspirations in life.

She also has a free intro audio to the book on her website if you would like to know more before buying.

Rise Sister Rise

I gained so much from The Light is the New Black I had to read more so this is the second book of Rebecca’s I brought.

This one is a lot more spiritual so if your not into that or not interested in leaning into it then it may not be for you but, give it a go! I actually went back and read this a second time because at different stages in my life, I found it made sense to different parts and I took new information from it each time.

Women Don’t Owe You Pretty

Well if you haven’t read it yet, read it.

This is a real honest and insightful account of events in history that have shaped our beliefs and thoughts today.

Talking through how these beliefs and thoughts are harmful and how we can change those ideas to harness our true power and self-love.

The illustrations are also amazing with a quirky, colourful style. This is a book I will be keeping on my bookshelf for friends to look through whenever they are over.

Self-love books remind us that we are worthy of love, deserving of kindness, and capable of greatness. So, the next time you feel a bit grey, pick up a self-love book and let it sprinkle some rainbow glitter into your soul. Go on, treat yourself to a literary cuddle! 🌈📚

These books are also available to listen to on Audible. When you sign up you get One Free Audiobook of your choice. I actually love these for the drive to work or on road trips!
